Seagulls Land Catcher in Tyler Helms

Unable to bring back any of the catchers from the 2009 team that finished 19-16, the San Francisco Seagulls went back to the drawing board and while doing so landed Tyler Helms from Ohlone Junior College. Helms, a redshirt freshman, has a strong arm, a solid stick and does an excellent job of blocking balls behind the plate.
Caviglia on Helms: Tyler should see a lot of time behind the plate for us in 2010. He is dedicated, works hard and does whatever it takes to help the team. Tyler will call his own game for our pitchers this season which should help him gain more experience as a catcher.

Seagulls Sign Ricci, Add More Pitching

Less than a week before opening day, the San Francisco Seagulls are proud to announce the signing of right handed pitcher Anthony Ricci. The Skyline College product enjoyed early success in 2010 before his season was cut short to a pneumonia. Before missing the last two months of the season Ricci posted a 4.76 ERA in six outings while working as the teams closer.

Caviglia on Ricci: Anthony is a big kid who has a tremendous work ethic. He should contribute immediately for us in 2010. He has a nice fastball-slider combo and does a good job of throwing strikes. This summer I expect Anthony to be used primarily as our right-handed set-up reliever.

Seagulls Ink Tupper to Summer Contract

Earlier last week the San Francisco Seagulls announced the signing of Dennis Tupper from Skyline College in San Bruno, CA. Tupper just finished his freshman season at Skyline College where he was teammates with current Seagulls players Bob Hurst and Anthony Ricci. Tupper is one of the many 2010 signings that should help revamp a Seagulls pitching staff that finished with just a 4.90 ERA last season.

Caviglia on Tupper: Dennis should see a lot of innings for us as a middle reliever in 2010. He has good movement on his fastball and does a great job of competing. I am excited to have Dennis on our staff and he is one of the pieces to the puzzle that should help us get better this year.

Hurst Set to take Mound for Seagulls in 2010

The majority of the time good pitching beats good hitting and that will be the San Francisco Seagulls philosophy in 2010. With that in mind, head coach Marc Caviglia is pleased to announce the signing of Bob Hurst from Skyline Junior College. In his freshman season, the Belmont, CA native finished the season with a 2-2 record while throwing 46 innings and allowing opponents to hit just .265 off of him. Hurst finished the season as the No.2 starting pitcher on a Skyline team that finished 23-16 and lost in the first round of the Northern California playoffs.

Caviglia on Hurst: Bob is a local product who threw the ball well for Skyline in 2010. He has a heavy fastball and does a great job of forcing weak contact. He will begin the season as one of our starting pitchers and should be a consistent contributor on a weekly basis.

Seagulls Sign Lefty Arm in Rajeski

In the middle of April head coach Marc Caviglia was fortunate enough to land Mark Rajeski from San Francisco State. The signing of Rajeski continues to bolster a pitching staff that should be the San Francisco Seagulls best in 2010. The southpaw just finished up his freshman year in college and saw action out of the bullpen for the Gators. He appeared in 12 games while tossing 17.1 innings for a San Francisco State team that finished with their best record in almost a decade.

Caviglia on Rajeski: We are excited to add Mark to our program in 2010. As a true freshman he saw a decent amount of action on the mound and continued to get better with each outing. I look forward to helping Mark make the most of his big frame and develop into a promising lefty. Look for him to see the majority of his innings out of the bullpen in 2010.

Seagulls Sign Anderson to Play Infield

Adding to an already impressive group of 2010 signees, the San Francisco Seagulls announced the signing of Drew Anderson. The switch hitting middle infielder just finished up his junior season at San Francisco State. On the year Anderson hit .260 while scoring 32 runs, driving in 24 and stealing nine bases. His 19 walks and 11 hit by pitches led to an on base percentage of .369.

Caviglia on Anderson: Drew represents what Seagulls baseball is all about. He plays the game hard and does the little things to help the team out. Drew does an excellent job of finding ways to get on base and is likely to start the season as our leadoff hitter in 2010.

Marks to Add Depth to Pitching Staff

In years past the Seagulls have had quality pitching; however, in 2010 head coach Marc Caviglia has made finding quality arms a top priority. In addition to returning seven key pitchers from last year, the Seagulls have announced the signing of Koji Marks from McLean, VA. Marks is a hard throwing right handed pitcher that just finished his freshman year at Methodist University in North Carolina.

Caviglia on Marks: We are excited to have Koji on our pitching staff in 2010. He comes to San Francisco from Virginia and will be thrown into the fire right away. Koji has good arm action and does a excellent job of forcing contact. Look for him to be used as a middle reliever and spot starter in 2010. Being that he still has three years of college left, we hope for Koji to be a Seagull for years to come.

Creamer Heading West With Seagulls

After losing three catchers in 2009, the Seagulls are excited to announce the signing of Peter Creamer from Groveland, MA. Creamer just completed his freshman year at Assumption College in Massachusetts and will be the Seagulls primary catcher in 2010. On the year, Creamer hit .270 with four extra base hits, six runs batted in and a .357 on-base percentage. Defensively, Creamer showed off his strong arm by gunning down eight of the 19 attempted base stealers.

Caviglia on Creamer: I am excited to have Peter behind the plate in 2010. He does an excellent job of handling the pitching staff and is really developing as a player. As a hitter he adds left-handed power to our lineup and we hope for Peter to be a staple in our lineup for years to come.

Seagulls add Pasiecznik to 2010 Roster

With the 2010 summer season just three weeks away head coach Marc Caviglia is working hard to round out an already impressive roster. Earlier in the week the Seagulls landed outfielder Trevor Pasiecznik from the College of San Mateo (CSM). Pasiecznik, a outfielder, currently has five home runs and 13 extra base hits for a CSM team that is 27-7-1. He will primarilly play the corner outfield positions for the Seagulls in 2010 and will spend some time as a designated hitter.

Caviglia on Pasiecznik: Trevor will add pop to the Seagulls lineup in 2010. He can hit the ball out of the ballpark to all fields and does a great job of making loud contact.
