Tyler Helms (Ohlone JC) finished the day 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a game leading RBI double in the seventh inning. Eren Miravalles (Canada JC) had three knocks and a stolen base in the win.

Newcomers Daniel Filous (Cornell University) and Kory Wallace (Cal State Stanislaus) pitched three scoreless innings in relief to secure the victory. Filous overpowered the Indians with his fastball and worked two quick innings while Wallace closed the door in the ninth.

Offensively, the Seagulls used patience and good plate discipline to manufacture five runs. After pounding out 13 hits in the first game the Seagulls took 13 walks from Fairfield pitchers and made the most of defensive miscues. Eren Miravalles (Canada JC), Nikolas Fangonilo (Miss. Valley State), Nicholas Alexandre (Canada JC) and Dominic Ferrando (Canada JC) each had a hit. Miravalles drew three walks in the game.

Another big key to the Seagulls’ success in 2011 is base running and they showcased some good wheels on opening day. They stole five bases in game two, which was highlighted by Alexandre stealing two.

Next up, the Seagulls will play host to the Menlo Park Legends on Sunday May 29 at Fairmont Field in Pacifica. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.

Zach Bell (Williams Penn U.) worked five solid innings of three hit ball to record the victory. It was the 2010 Pitcher of the Year winner’s second straight opening day victory. Newcomer Tristan Gavin (Whitman College) threw a shutout inning in relief to close the door on the Indians.

Head coach Marc Caviglia, in his seventh year with the team, returns 14 players from a team that won 23 games in 2010 and there will be 13 new faces wearing Seagull blue this year. The schedule will consist of 45 games over 65 days with five road trips for the 2011 summer. The Seagulls will travel to Atwater, CA and Reno, NV in June to play the Atwater Aviators and Nevada Big Horns. In July, the Seagulls will spend the first three weeks on the road with a second trip to Reno to take on the Big Horns, as well as a trip to Fresno, CA to do battle against the Clovis Reds and Fresno Cardinals.  Rounding out their road schedule, on July 15-17 the Gulls will take on the Palm Springs Power in Palm Springs, CA.  In all, the squad will be on the road for 25 games.

The event will also include a Seagulls Raffle and a Silent Auction that is loaded with many quality items to win and bid on. Fans of the San Francisco ball club will be able to purchase Seagulls Baseball shirts.

All money donated to Seagulls Baseball will help cut individual player costs for the 2011 summer season.

The Seagulls rolled off five straight wins in the middle of the season, which was highlighted by a three game sweep of arch-rival Nevada Big Horns.  The San Francisco ball club traveled to Carson City, Nevada and outscored the Big Horns 31-9 during the sweep.

Continuing to stay hot on the road the Seagulls went into Fresno and swept a two game series from the Clovis Reds and a single game from the Central Coast Wolfpack.

Overall, the Seagulls were 20-12 on the road, however just 3-9 at Fairmont Field in Pacifica.
