In his first game as a member of the San Francisco Seagulls, Roger Fonseca (City College of San Francisco) made an impact in a big way. Despite standing just 5-9, Fonseca used his natural left-handed swing to punish Oakland Expos pitching throughout the game. In the second inning, the outfielder singled home two runs to give the Seagulls an early 2-0 lead. Two innings later Fonseca ripped the first pitch he saw down the right-field line for a RBI double. On the afternoon, the Seagulls rookie was 3-4 at the plate, scored 2 runs to go along with 3 RBI’s.
On the mound, the Seagulls (1-0) used seven pitchers in their 9-4 win over the Expos. Colin Murphy (1-0) worked two scoreless innings to start the game and picked up the win for the Seagulls.
