The 2011 season for the San Francisco Seagulls got off to a bang, as they pounded out 13 hits in a 14-4 trouncing of the Fairfield Indians. Newcomer Peter Quigley (Ohlone College) had three hits and four RBIs to lead the 13 hit attack. Quigley is also the first Seagull since Dustin Wold (San Francisco State) to homer in his first career at-bat. In the second inning, Quigley drove a 1-0 offering into left center field for the team’s first home run of the season. Later in the game, Eric Hererra (Lynn University) tripled to left center field to drive in three runs. Hererra was going for an inside the park home run, however he was thrown out at the plate.  Last year’s MVP Roger Fonseca (York College) finished with three hits and two stolen bases for the Gulls.

Zach Bell (Williams Penn U.) worked five solid innings of three hit ball to record the victory. It was the 2010 Pitcher of the Year winner’s second straight opening day victory. Newcomer Tristan Gavin (Whitman College) threw a shutout inning in relief to close the door on the Indians.
