The San Francisco Seagulls are kicking off their fifth season of a Collegiate/Semi-Pro Baseball Team against the cross-bay rivals, the Oakland Expos. The season opener is a scheculed double header on Saturday, May 30th at BIG REC in San Francisco; with first pitch slated for 12:00 P.M. The second game of the twin-bill is set for a 3:00 P.M. start.
Colin Murphy (UC Santa-Cruz), who is a 4th year veteran, will be getting the nod on the mound in Game 1. Murphy will be starting his second opening day in Seagulls franchise history. In 2008, Murphy led all Seagulls pitchers in Innings Pitched (56) and Strikeouts (58). He also is the Seagulls career leader in Innings Pitched, Strikeouts and Appearances.
In Game 2, Matt Maggiolo (Hawaii Pacific) will start on the mound for the Seagulls. In two seasons with the Seagulls Maggiolo holds a 5-1 record while compiling 38 Strikeouts. All Seagulls pitchers are scheduled to pitch during the season opener.
In 2009, the Seagulls are full of quality talent from around the nation, with players coming from a variety of Division I, II, III, and NAIA teams from all over the country. The Seagulls roster includes 29 players with 14 of them being returning veterans. Also, 15 newcomers will be wearing a Seagulls uniform for the first time in their career.
All fans looking to support the 2009 Seagulls can do so by attending opening day on Saturday, May 30th. ! There are plenty of seats still available for the home opener at BIG REC. The stadium can seat up to 500 fans, so plenty of great seats are still open and admission is free of charge.
